What gains did women make in their movement for women's rights? How did a new right-wing politics affect the Jews in different parts of Europe? What political problems did Great Britain, Italy, France, Austria-Hungary Germany and Russia face between 1894 and 1914, and how did they solve them? Their movement for suffrage was unsuccessful.

    1. Women gained the following in their women's rights movement;

    Education

    Family and marriage laws

    Property rights

    Female dominated; teaching and nursing

    2. Darwinism led to extreme nationalism and then led to extreme racism.

    Major anti-semitism in Austria and German empire

    Renew anti-semitism started in the late 19th cent

    IR and enlightenment ideas normally meant more equality such at religious toleration but by the end of 19th cent this wore off.

    3. GB: the labor party grew spreading socialist and liberalist ideas which lead to the creation of the national insurance act of 1911

    France: the Dreyfus Affair; a huge scandal that was caused by someone leaking secrets to Germany and the gov. Tried to blame Alfred Dreyfus but he claimed to be innocent and just wanted his job back

    Germany: expansion of industry lead to the growth of socialist party and the conservatives in response wanted a more expansionist nationalistic policy

    Austro-Hungary: had problems of nationalities which led to universal make sufferage and the minorities in gov wanted more gov control

    Russia: Sergei Witte the finance minister of Russia got state sponsored industrialization and went from 5,000-35,000 railways and created protective tarrifs but then they struggled with child labor and over crowed cities
