After the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell held the power of government for ten years. In 1660, King Charles II returned to the throne. This made all the people rejoice over the restoration of the English monarchy. After his return to power, Charles wasted no time in restoring the monarchies power. This started with the creation of new colonies in North America. Charles set up the colonies of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the Carolinas.
