The Teapot scandal occurred due to oil drilling bribery and corruption that involved the secretary of the interior in the 1920s. The secretary failed to protect the oil fields as he had promised but instead, he accepted bribes from his oilmen friends to do oil extraction operations. Due to the allegations, the secretary was investigated and later impeached. The president, however, had a sudden death during the investigations. This is considered it as a big scandal because it is corruption and bribery at the highest level of the government. Furthermore, the secretary became the first officer of the cabinet to be sentenced to prison.
