Veterans day is the celebrated to honour the bravery and sacrifice of all US veterans. It is celebrated on Nov 11. Earlier it was known as armistice day and was declared as a holiday fro honouring the end of world war one on November 11,1918. It is a federal holiday in US, and hence government agencies and schools are closed on that day. Various other countries celebrate it as the Armistice day.

It was on November 11, 1918 that armistice was signed and world war one came to an end. Next year Woodrow Wilson declared to call Nov 11 as Armistice day. It was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to honour the veterans of Korean war and second world war.

It was president Dwight D Eisenhower who officially proclaimed to celebrate the Veterans day and changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day, it was done in year 1954.
