The Empire of Ghana was located in the Sahel region. It was a powerful kingdom developed nearly in 700 AD.

Its power and richness were because of the salt and gold trade that the Empire used to have at that time. As well as the exchange of slaves, goods, and ivory. They used to trade these with Arab people, and they boughy cloth, horses, and weapons in exchange.

Later on, 600 years after, the Empire of Ghana became part of a new Kingdom known as Mali, which would control the gold trade for a while. Its success with trades made them cross borders around West Africa.
