    5. The plymouth colony was founded by puritans who were known as the pilgrims. They had migrated from England because they wanted their religious freedom. Basically they thought that members of the Church of England violated the biblical precepts and in response they broke away and formed their own independent congregation that adhered to christian precepts more strictly.
