    His name is John Knox, a Calvinist who became the leader of the Scottish Reformation. Scottish Protestants convened a parliament in 1560; it stopped recognizing the authority of the pope in Scotland, adopted the Scots Confession (a confession of faith that stressed the presence of Christ in the Eucharist) and forbade celebrating mass in the country.
