Who or what prevented the Tsar from gaining more power within Russia?

    The 1905 Revolution, a long and messy social event plagued with protests and loud demands of reform in Russia, forced the Tsar to make political and social concessions. Until then, Russia had been an absolute monarchy. Tsar Nicholas II had to guarantee some constitutional rights to people and even a Duma (legislative body) was established.
