    It might have affected the South's economy by drastically dropping the amount of goods and resources produced. This might have happened because the slaves did almost entirely all the work to produce the goods and resources, not the plantation owners (or the slave owners in general). Without anyone to do all the work for the slave owners, the South's economy most likely have dropped with slower production rates.
