The main source of conflict between France and Britain in north America during the seventeenth and the eighteenth centurias was:

dispute over territory in north america

    Explanation:

French explorers and traders were the first to arrive and explore Ohio and the area of the Mississipi river. They profited very well from trap/fur trading and established good relationships with the American natives. Some of them even married Female Native American Women. Then, Britain arrived. they also profited from those lands and they went further than the Frenchs. they claimed the land and the king gave it to certain people. Then both Britains and French established settlements and fought a strategical war to determine their dominance through economic means. Nevertheless, the time came to decide over the rest of the disputed territory and the Britains won. They accepted territories for peace in the Indian American war. It was a geopolitical war. But the French would have their revenge on them.

The French and Indian War, which took place between 1754-1763, began due to a conflict between England and France over control of the Ohio River Valley. Both sides wanted the valley so they could expand their settlements into the area.
