How did the various regions of the British colonies become prosperous in different ways?

New England settlers used the local resources such as fish and timber, setting up shipbuilding industries. Settlers in the Middle Colonies grew large amounts of grain on large farming lands. The Southern Colonies adopted the plantation economy to grow cash crops favorable to the Southern weather.
