Why did Buddhism grow out of favor?

    Buddhism was criticized for being a foreign religion. Buddhist monasteries had acquired thousands of acres, with land came corruption. During the Tang dynasty, countless Buddhist temples were destroyed. Buddhism was also denying the very essence of confucian teachings.
