The answer is Battle of Midway.

    Explanation:

battle of Midway was a major blow to the Japanese navy and almost permanently reduced them of the capacity to advance further in to the allied territory in the Pacific.

However, battle of the coral sea was the 1st battle that stopped the Japanese advancement. However, we can't take that as an answer because the Battle was not won by Japanese or US navies. It was more of a draw and a stalemate.
