The United States Census of 1890 began on June 2, 1890. It revealed that the resident population of the US to be almost 62,000,000 that was 25 percent increase over 1880 census. It was the first to be tabulated by the machine. It announced that the American frontier has disappeared due to the distribution of the population.

Most materials of this census was destroyed in a fire in 1921, but data of a few states is still available. It was the first census in which most of the states crossed the population f over one million and multiple cities recorded population over one million. Chicago became the second most populous city.
