    A) is incorrect because village elders didn't really exist without villages

    B) is kind of correct as the river provided fertile land for farming

    C) flooding and river animals didn't exactly make it safe and secure so that one is probably not it.

    D) I'm pretty sure irrigation hadn't been invented yet so that one probably isn't it.

    I'd go with B.
