    Britain defended its colonial policies by arguing that the colonists had virtual representation in Parliament. The colonists insisted they must have actual representation.

    Explanation:

    In the days before the Revolution one of the main issues except taxation system was the representation of Colonist in British Parliament. According to Government in London, the colonists were virtually represented in the Parliament, as the people who lived in Britain were. On the other hand Colonist thought that they should have someone from the colonies inside the Parliament itself, who would discuss about the matters concerning them and actually represent them.
