A poor economy can result in a number of difficulties when it comes down to being able to afford food, water, or even shelter.

Everyone needs food and water, but living in a place with a poor economy makes it hard to come by the luxury of having those things on hand. Many people live in infested, shanty homes living by the day and trying to stretch pennies into dimes.

Another variable that is in play is healthcare. Countries with poorer economies can't afford good healthcare, resulting in many common and easily-curable illnesses killing many people each year.

So therefore, life expectancy is shorter than surrounding countries and areas.
