The then Spanish king Philip II was a strong believer of Catholic faith and he wanted to convert all the protestant English settlers to Catholicism. Under the reign of Queen Elizabeth, though she practiced moderate religious tolerance, Spanish supremacy was a threat to England, sent an explorer John Cabot.

Spanish people formed a strong army called the Spanish squadron and decided to destroy English ships.

But English fleet under the General John Cabot had plundered the Spanish ships and the armada was destroyed. This made America a safe place for Britain colonists.
