    The region of Confederate States was dominated by a few wealthy people who hold large farms and the majority of the southern whites owned small farms lands. Though both supported slavery, economic hardship created conflict within the southern whites. As the war went on, discontent rose because of the lack of food. Plantation owners grew cotton instead of food because it was more profitable. Secondly, the Confederate army was authorized to seize supplies of farmers and the government was not taxing the rich plantation owners.
