    Explanation:

    During the D-Day landing the hardest task was in the hands of the 16th Regiment of the 1st US Infantry Division and the 116th Regiment of the 29th US Infantry Division. They were constantly under the attack of German machine guns. Without a good support of the tanks they managed to capture the beaches, but with heavy casualties of around 2 000 soldiers.
