Slavery was abolished in the whole territory of the United States after the war and northern politicians promoted bill and amendments to try to achieve equality for the African Americans. The South's economy was ruined, ravaged by the war and the Reconstructuion Era came to rebuild economicalyl the South. Politically, southern states were reincorporated into the Union and they had to swear loyalty to the Constitution.

the north and the south were divided socially because of the ethical issue of whether slavery should be allowed. politically the southern states wanted to secede from the union and form their own government. economically the war obviously had a bad impact on everyone because war is expensive, but after slavery was abolished farmers had to start paying their workers which was a big change from having slaves, while the north had been paying workers since before the war.
