Explanation:

After Hitler came in power, Germany started to change its course. Germany started to require territories that it considered to be historically German and have German populations, like in part of the Czech Republic. The Germans annexed part of the Czech Republic, and the British and French thought that that was about it from their territorial ambitions. They were wrong though, and Germany invaded Poland from the west, while in meantime the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east. This was seen as a sign that Germany is aiming at something much greater, so the British and the French quickly declared war on the Germans, but weirdly enough not on the Soviet Union despite doing the same thing.
