    Explanation: Permafrost is a permanent condition in which the ground remains frozen for at least a period of 2 years at a temperature of 0°C or - 32°F. This condition is common in mountainous region and areas with high latitude around the North and south poles. Permafrost covers a large area of land in the Northern hemisphere about a quarter of the land area. Permafrost is just a combination of rocks, sand and soil compacted by ice.
