During the late colonial times, there was an obvious disparity between American and British ideas. The British held on to the idea of "virtual representation." What this means is that they established the idea that prevented some men from voting for their representatives. They were of the opinion that all individuals would be represented basically because members of Parliament would have their best interests in mind. Putting it In other words, the Parliamentary members would be like parents who would do the right thing and also make the right choice for their "children" (the constituents) even if the children had no say in the matter.

though there were some similiarities like In American representation, the term 'conservative' means entirely right-wing, especially when it comes to social issues. In Britain the name 'Conservative' entirely right-wing, especially when it involves economic issues.
