What led British soldiers to fire on Boston's towns people on March 5, 1770

In one such confrontation between the two that happened on the 5th of March 1770, the colonists started throwing things at the army men. This act of the settlers angered the army and they fired back on the settlers in retaliation. Five colonists died in this firing.
