    The correct answer is Hills

Roman civilization built the largest empire that existed during antiquity.

Rome is located on the Italic Peninsula, a long strip of land, shaped like a boot, which advances through the Mediterranean Sea. The peninsula is crossed by the Apennine mountain range and to the north is bordered by a series of mountains, the Alps; to the east it is bathed by the Adriatic Sea, to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea; and to the south, by the Mediterranean Sea.

Rome was a city-state that was born near the Tiber River, on the Italic Peninsula. Little by little it expanded and dominated vast regions, becoming a great empire. It is currently the capital of Italy and the site of the Vatican State and the seat of the Catholic Church.

The terrain is mountainous, but the mountains are less elevated than in Greece, so they did not make contact between populations difficult.
