The early American colonies weren't prosperous because the countries like France, England etc constantly jostled for power and ignored the need of the colonies and the natives.

    Explanation:

The constant power struggles among the colonialists led them to ignore the condition of the colonies they had acquired.

The colonies were made to cultivate crops like tobacco instead of food. This brought in an acute food shortage. Also, the colonialists never focused on developing the colonies.

The colonized lands were used to bring in wealth for the colonialists and health, economy and hygiene of the colonies were totally ignored.
