Are there noticeable attempts to prevent the congress from behaving in the ways that the parliament had prior to the revolution?

One of the main causes of the American Revolutionary War was the way in which Parliament behaved towards the colonies. The colonists had many grievances that they enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.

After the war, and following the establishment of a new government, Congress was established in a way that prevented many of these issues from ever occurring again. For example, Congress members had to be elected by the citizens. This would ensure the representation of the interests of citizens in government. Moreover, Parliament would now be bound by the balance of power, which meant that it had to cooperate with other areas of government in order to pass effective legislation.
