Why might Philip II have said "I sent my ships to fight against men and not against the winds and waves of God"?

    Philip II might have said that because he thought that he would win but God intervened and caused his armada to lose.

    He might have thought of this because he believed that it was God's actions that caused a violent storm to destroy his Armada. It was recorded that more than 20,000 people died because of the storm and battle.
