    Hello Kaitlynn,

The answer to this question is Sparta for the reason of this is what the Spartans were born to be starting from a very young age. The Athenians were more peaceful and engaged in non war aspects"poetry, art". But to clear it up the Athenians did put up a good fight when time was need example the battle of Marathon but this overall they did not portray themselves like fierce warriors as much as the Spartans did.

    Sparta.

When we think of the Greek warriors, we think of the Spartans. Sparta was primarily a city-state that maximized it's military performance over all other entities. This was a benefit to Greece during the Greco-Persian Wars, as Spartans made up the majority of Greece's military force. Being that Sparta focused on military strength, their entire societal structure was unique from the rest of Greece and especially Athens. One example of this was the extensive rights and freedom that Spartan women had over women from other areas in Greece. Since the city-state focused so much on military, the Spartan children were exempt from their households and industrial duties, and given training for the military. Sparta did have a very similar government style to Athens, and shared the same Assembly system, in which members were elected by the people.

Athens on the other hand, was a much more "civilized" and peaceful city-state, focusing on democracy, peace, and prosperity. Athenians focused more on education, and children were given the freedom to explore any area of sciences and arts. Military training was offered, but not required.

Their main difference, which also caused the Peloponnesian War, was that Sparta and Athens had opposing views as to their relation with the rest of Greece. Sparta wanted to remain isolated, but provide military assistance when it was needed. Athens wanted to conquer more area around them, and control the rest opf Greece.
