    1. At times he was put in jail/prison and I have read that at other times he was simply ignored. There were several violent movements going on in the Country of India at the time so Gandhi's peaceful movement really didn't draw a lot of attention from the British.

    2. Gandhi organized Indian resistance, fought anti-Indian legislation in the courts and led large protests against the colonial government ... In 1930, he began a massive satyagraha campaign against a British law that forced Indians to purchase British salt instead of producing it locally.

    3. Millions of Indians were thrown out of work and into poverty. Gandhi struggled throughout his life against what he considered three great evils afflicting India ... Gandhi declared that the peasants were living "under a reign of terror." British officials ordered Gandhi to leave the province, which he refused to do.

4 (a) In The South African Gandhi: Stretcher-Bearer of Empire, Desai and Vahed write that during his stay in Africa, Gandhi kept the Indian struggle "separate from that of Africans and coloureds even though the latter were also denied political rights on the basis of colour and could also lay claim to being British subjects".

    (b) When Gandhi arrived in South Africa a 24-year-old briefless lawyer - was undoubtedly "at times ignorant and prejudiced about South Africa's blacks".
