    The House of Burgesses was the original representative elected legislative body in the colony of Virginia in North America of Britain. With the founding of this body in the year 1642, the General Assembly of Virginia which was founded in the year 1619 grew a bicameral institution. In the years between 1642-1776, the House of Burgesses was an apparatus of management besides the royally-elected colonial administrator and the upper-level Council of State in the General Assembly.
