    George Ritchie was a student at Madison University in upstate New York. He started the first student newspaper and wrote an article titled Equal Suffrage and the Religious Press. He was expelled from the university in 1847. He subsequently advocated abolitionism throughout Central New York. He also published antislavery sermons and wrote abolitionist speeches until his death in 1853.
