    The United States government has used rationing before several different times. One example would be the OPEC Oil crisis of the 1970's. During this time, the US had to ration the amount of gas that citizens could buy in order to ensure there was enough. This resulted in long gas lines and further reflected the economic turmoil of the 1970's.
