    The factors that contributed to the creation of the wheat belt in the great plains were the climate that had the warmth and the rain needed to grow wheat, the altitude, nighttime temperatures, soil conditions, and farming practices. Everything made the place perfect.

    After the World War I came the Panic of 1893, prices began to go down 25 to 50 percent, farmers began to be overwhelmed with debt and the number of farms went down but the size of them went up. Wheat became a supplement of maize, cotton, and oilseeds. It was considered safer to have an economic diversification.
