    I'm not 100% sure of the answer here since John Lennon's dad was actually called Alf, however he was musically talented and did record an album under the name Freddie Lennon, he did also spend many years living in America so my guess is that he also played clarinet and piano in a traditional jazz band around liverpool and settled in america is the answer.
