The title of prophet was given by God to some Israelite men of Old Testament times. They were the spokesmen or messengers of Jehovah, with the mission to convey a message of admonition (soft reprimand) or prediction to the people, which is the act of predicting what will happen in the future.

The Israelite prophets were the agents of prophecy, but they had a unique representation. Regardless of which one they were, they gave voice to Jehovah. That is, the prophetic message originated in God himself. Therefore, a striking feature of the scriptures of this prophet is the form used "Thus saith the Lord," which came not from them, but from Jehovah himself.
