Plato was one of the greatest philosophers of ancient Greece. When he wrote the influential political book "The Republic," he wrote about Timocracy in Book 8. Plato mentioned that Timocracy had the opposite characteristics of an Aristocracy and although it could be a combination of the positive and negative traits, prominent Greeks would be very aware of Timocracy because people who rule under this form would pursue more individual interests instead of promoting the collective welfare.
