Why do you think that the United States wanted to stop the spread of communism during the Cold War

the United States was a democracy and they did not stand for communism however Communists didn't want the people that they had control over to see how free a democratic government was so therefore they built an iron curtain to keep a democracy unknown from the people that Communists have control over.
