    Under Queen Elizabeth 1, the parliament was not like it is today. Their main purpose was to pass laws and give the Queen money. The Queen was also able to pass any laws she wanted to without the approval of Parliament. These were called Royal Proclamations. Parliament didn't have a prime minister or parties and it was up to the Queen when she wanted to call a meeting between parliament and when she did it was to mainly get money. Throughout her 42 year reign, parliament only met 13 times.
