What happened when black people stopped riding the buses in Montgomery?

Answer: it took a toll on the bus systems as they hardly got business and they boycotted the buses making riots start and made it hard for whites to get to work and businesses

40,000 black bus riders boycotted the system. Many black leaders met to form the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association). The group elected MLK as president and they continued their boycott, until the city met their demands. Evidently they did not. So, black leaders organized carpools and African American taxi drivers charged 10 cents (the same to ride a bus) to African Americans. But, many African Americans decided to walk until change was given. Eventually on June 5, 1965 Montgomery federal court ruled any law that racially segregated seating on buses violated the 14th amendment. The city appealed to the US Supreme Court and finally on December 21, 1965 Montgomery buses were integrated.
