Soviet Policy

Glasnost - This policy implemented by Mikhail Gorbachev allowed for the citizens of the Soviet Union to have more freedom to information. Before this time, the Soviet Union's government controlled radio programming and what newspapers produced. After the implementation of glasnost, Soviet citizens began to learn more about different types of government systems and got an understanding of how the Soviet Union is viewed by other countries.

US Policy

- Supporting countries who wanted to get rid of communism - The US government was known for giving financial or military assistance to countries that were trying to get rid of the communist system.
