At the height of the Cold War the nations that were present in the "Eastern Bloc" were: Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and, until the sixties, Albania and of course the Soviet Union. All these states were opposed to the western bloc formed by NATO states. The term "Eastern Bloc" is also used as a synonym for the Warsaw Pact and / or Comecon. The first seen as a military alliance led by the Soviet Union and the second as an international economic organization of communist states. On June 28th 1991 the Comecon was declared dissolved and on July 1st it was the turn of the Warsaw Pact. These two events symbolically sanctioned the end of the Russian Soviet influence in Eastern Europe and therefore the disappearance of the block itself.
