The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States and is originally composed of 7 articles.

The first 3 articles explain the government division into 3 branches:

Article 1: Describes the role of Congress (House of Representatives and Senate) Article 2: Describes the role of the Executive (The President) Article 3: Describes the Judicial Branch (Court system)

The next 3 articles explain the concepts of federalism:

Article 4: Describes the relationship among existing states and between these states and the federal government. Article 5: Describes the process for placing amendments on the Constitution. Article 6: Establishes the Constitution, all Federal laws and treaties as the supreme law of the United States.

Finally, article 7 establishes and describes the procedure that would be used by the states to ratify the Constitution.
