What encouraged people not to move west?

    Because Native Americans were still settled in the westernmost lands of America, the settlers did not want to move that way for fear of being attacked. Also, this part may be irrelevant depending on the time period, but at a certain period of time Britain still occupied forts in the West and settlers feared the British.
