Why do you think the colonists had concerns about a strong central government?

Colonists had concerns about a strong central government because of their experience as British colonies. After the French and Indian War, the British government was in massive debt. In order to pay off this debt, the British government turned to the American colonies for revenue. These taxes angered many colonists because the taxes were passed without a colonial representative in the British parliament. This developed the idea of "no taxation without representation."

This is why the colonists feared a strong central government. Many felt that the British central government was tyrannical and unfair. This caused resentment among colonists.
