King David was the third king of Israel and Judah, according to the Hebrew Bible. David was born as a shepherd, but gained notoriety when he defeated the giant Goliath.

As a king, David is credited with having conquered Jerusalem and bringing the Ark of Covenant into the city. David was also punished for commiting adultery with Bathsheba, who was the wife of Uriah the Hittite. He was succeeded by his son Solomon. As a historical figure, it is difficult to know whether he existed, and if he did, what his accomplishments and personality were.
