During WWII, the American armed forces were still segregated by race. Why do you think this issue became increasingly important during this era, leading to the desegregation of the Armed Forces a few years after the war?

    World War II really forced the issue of America being segregated while at the same time African-American soldiers were dying on behalf of their country.

    For many, this contradiction was a bridge too far and started to push conversations around desegregation.
