U. S. Route 66 was a historic highway in the United States, which started in Chicago, and ended on the beach of the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica near Los Angeles. The total length of the route was of 2448 miles. US66 runs through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

US66 was officially dissolved in 1985, after the Interstate Highway System took over long-distance traffic. Many tourists still follow the old route of Route 66, which now runs from Chicago via the US55 to St. Louis. From there the road turns into the US44 as far as Oklahoma City, from where the US40 follows most of the original route, all the way to Barstow. From there people can follow the last part on the US15 to drive to Santa Monica via San Bernardino.
