    I'm going to say "D." While Nixon won in a landslide victory, Watergate was still in its infancy, with most people describing it as a third-rate burglary. I wouldn't say most people ignored it, it's just that most people didn't think it was as serious as it would become. As more information became available, more people demanded an investigation.
